DYNAMO REGULATOR PREVENTS PREMATURE BULB FAILURE DUE TO OVERLOAD

NICELITE REGULATOR - CONTROLS EXCESS GENERATOR VOLTAGE

  • Seamless Electronic Control of Voltage to the Head and Tail Lights
  • Lights operate at their original brightness below overload speed

  • Effective With All Bulb Types, including LED

  • Allows a Dynamo Headlamp to be reliably upgraded to Halogen or Nicelite LED

XGEN   is for a tyre driven dynamo

XGEN2 is for a vintage 1.8W Sturmey Archer Dynohub

XGEN5 is a heavy duty unit for a modern Hub Generator

XGEN, XGEN2, and XGEN5 voltage regulators inhibits over-voltage from bicycle generators. Voltage at low speeds is not affected. Effective with all bulb types, including Nicelite LED. Halogen and particularly Nicelite LED bulbs give a superior beam, but they require voltage control as they are particularly sensitive to overload which some bike dynamos produce at higher speed. XGEN and XGEN5 can be fitted at the headlight and XGEN2 is fitted on the Dynohub terminals.

XGEN and XGEN5 can be fitted to single wire and twin wire systems. Please click on the red buttons for illustrated instructions, including a circuit diagram.

Voltage to all lights and devices is controlled. Only one regulator is required for each generator.

Solutions to Dynamo Problems

Dynamo lighting depends on having the correct bulbs or single bulb in the circuit. If the electrical load is insufficient, such as if one bulb has blown, the voltage can easily be excessive. Another factor can be bad electrical contact with a bulb, or with the bike frame (which is usually part of the circuit). Over time corrosion can degrade the connection of a lamp to the frame, causing that bulb to go out or flicker, and the voltage to rise. If there are two bulbs, the other is then liable to fail.

Removal of tarnish from the bulb cap and contacts, and removal of corrosion from the lamp/dynamo/frame contact areas, followed by application of corrosion inhibitor such as Purple Extreme Lubricant should prevent re-occurrence of contact problems.
